** BEWARE OF LATEST SCAM - SMISHING**
Smishing, derived from the familiar “phishing” and “sm” from SMS, the protocol used to transmit text messages via mobile devices, is the newest cyber threat. Urgent text messages are being sent to unsuspecting cell phone users directing them to imitated, but realistic-looking credit union sites where they are prompted to enter confidential information such as their PIN and/or account number.
Cell phone users have also started to receive messages where the message claims that they have signed up for a service and in order to discontinue it, they must click on a link and/or download a program. Doing this, will install software that will ultimately disable and or corrupt the device.
Hawaii Central Credit Union does not communicate with members via text messaging and we will never ask you for confidential information. If you receive a text message, email message or other form of communication claiming to be from Hawaii Central Credit Union that looks suspicious, please do not reply, and contact us immediately.
